In an effort to adapt to the ever changing shape of our trial list, commencing April 2, 2007, counsel/parties may obtain trial dates by telephone for trials estimated to be 6 - 19 days in length, written requests will no longer be required.
Please note that all trials 6 days or longer must be booked to commence on a Monday, or Tuesday if the Monday is a stat holiday. Keep in mind that we will not book 10 or 15 day trials into a "short week" or a time frame that overlaps a stat. Neither will lengthy trials be scheduled to overlap Conference weeks. Counsel/Parties may find it helpful to consult the Supreme Court Website, Trial Scheduling Information where the Court Calendars for following years are posted (www.courts.gov.bc.ca).
The trial calendar will continue to open for bookings on the first business day of the month, 18 months in advance. For example, October 2008 will commence booking on April 2, 2007. Phone lines will open at 8:30 am. Please call 604.660.2853 to schedule dates. If you wish to confirm specific booking dates, once again, please consult the Supreme Court Website, Trial Scheduling Information, Vancouver.
If counsel/parties are seeking earlier dates (within 17 months) they may call trial division at their convenience to obtain available dates and/or to schedule trial dates.
Counsel/Parties that are unable to obtain a trial date by telephone should call the Trial Coordinator directly to arrange hearing dates. Every effort will be made to accommodate requested dates.
All other bookings, (family trials, chambers, case management, etc.) will continue to be handled as set out in previous directives.
